Milpitas, Calif., November 9, 2010-SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the global leader in flash memory cards, today announced that its integrated solid state drive (iSSD) has been named a CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award Honoree within the Enabling Technologies category. Products entered into this prestigious competition are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press to honor outstanding feats of design and engineering in consumer electronics from around the world.
Tablet PCs and ultra-thin notebooks require fast, high-capacity storage with a tiny footprint, and the SanDisk iSSD solid state drive enables greater design flexibility for OEMs who seek to create the next generation of mobile computing products. SanDisk iSSD is the first product in a new category of embedded solid state drives (SSD) that are radically smaller and thinner than existing storage options for highly portable consumer electronic devices.
The SanDisk iSSD offers up to 160 megabyte per second (MB/sec)1 sequential read and up to 100MB/sec sequential write speeds for greater system responsiveness. Smaller than a postage stamp and weighing less than a paper clip, iSSD is the world's smallest 64 gigabyte (GB)2 SSD and the fastest high-capacity embedded storage solution at this physical size.
The renowned Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have recognized achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The awards program is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, which produces the International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow. The SanDisk iSSD will be displayed at the 2011 International CES, which runs January 6-9, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees by product category in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
