SAN DIEGO, CA, June 19, 2000 - SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) announced today that it will supply OPENERS Co., Ltd. of South Korea with its MultiMediaCard for storage of MP3 audio in the "hanzoom™ DMP-2000 Digital Music Player. Hanzoom, which means "handy" in Korean, is an Internet music player featuring two flash memory card slots capable of supporting both the MultiMediaCard as well as the upcoming Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card.
The announcement was made at the MP3 Summit trade show. SanDisk is demonstrating products, including the hanzoom, in booth # 45.
Available in a range of colors including Black, Gray, Indigo and Vivid Yellow, the hanzoom DMP-2000 is an advanced MP3 music player packaged in an ergonomic and user friendly design featuring a rubber cover that doubles as a sure-grip handle and a shock absorbing jacket for extra durability. In contrast to most digital audio players available today, the hanzoom supports multiple audio formats in addition to the popular MP3 including Windows Media Audio (WMA) and soon, MPEG-2 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC). Since WMA produces smaller files and encodes faster than earlier audio codes, the players double the compression space and are able to store twice as much data as most other digital players that supports only MP3.
"With support for both MultiMediaCard and the SD Memory Card, the hanzoom DMP-2000 is an appealing Internet music player offering consumers the opportunity to easily migrate from today's most popular digital audio memory card to tomorrow's most advanced e-commerce secure storage platform," said Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at SanDisk. "The hanzoom further confirms the popularity of the MultiMediaCard as more than 75 new Internet music players have MultiMediaCard slots."
S.W. Kim, president of Openers Co. Ltd., said, "The ultra-compact size, low power consumption, and proven performance and reliability of SanDisk's MultiMediaCard make it an ideal match for the hanzoom DMP-2000. The combination of long battery life, a young and energetic design, together with support for the most popular digital audio file formats as well as SDMI will enable hanzoom to open a new world of digital music to our customers."
